Biography

Jamie L. Flexon holds a B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) degree from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Her M.A. and Ph.D. were earned at the School of Criminal Justice, University at Albany, a renowned graduate school of criminal justice and criminology studies. While at the University at Albany, Dr. Flexon worked as an editorial assistant and research support specialist (2001-2006) for the Utilization of Justice Statistics Program, SOURCEBOOK of Criminal Justice Statistics at the Hindelang Criminal Justice Research Center. The project is housed at the University at Albany and is funded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice.

Dr. Flexon maintains an active research life. Her research interests involve juvenile delinquency primarily among minority youth, criminal justice issues related to punishment (i.e., capital punishment), and policy evaluation. She has presented numerous papers at professional conferences. Dr. Flexon’s research has also appeared in various outlets including Journal of Criminal Justice, Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, American Journal of Criminal Justice, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice, Victims & Offenders, Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, among others. Dr. Flexon is the author of the books, Racial Disparities in Capital Sentencing: Prejudice and Discrimination in the Jury Room (2012), and Juvenile Psychopathy: A Primer (2018) (e-Copy), among others, as well as a contributing author to chapters in books, such as Wrongly Convicted, Perspectives on Failed Justice and Encyclopedia of Criminological Theory.

Dr. Flexon is a member of the American Society of Criminology, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, Southern Criminal Justice Association, the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Criminal Justice Section of the ABA. Dr. Flexon is also a member of the Racial & Ethnic Justice & Diversity Committee, the Juvenile Justice Committee, the Forensic and Investigative Practices Committee, and the Science Technology & Forensics Committee of the ABA. She reviews for various journals including, Crime & Delinquency, Sociological Quarterly, British Journal of Sociology, Criminal Justice and Behavior, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, Victims & Offenders, among many others, as well as for publishing companies.
